Labour’s Homeless Promise

When politicians promise action or timetables, the public these days don’t believe them. Why should we believe them when many of them dodge or just don’t answer questions? But we are running into a time when people are fighting back.

Promised in August by Andy Burnham to stop rough sleeping by Christmas with half a billion-pound funding for it. This offer is to help people on the streets, not sofa surfers. In most towns and cities, you can find tents and makeshift shelters.

This announcement of help for the homeless gave Andy Burnham a pat on the back. He was just made PM, and people were looking for change after Keir Starmer. At the time, the new PM was just giving goodies away to look good in the public’s eyes.

So, the question is: where is the government up to with this project/initiative? It’s been 2 months since this announcement, so how many people so far have been moved to a shelter or somewhere safe off the streets?

It may be a fact that this was all promises encouraging euphoria for a new Prime Minister with a mission.

Logistics, cataloguing, and finding suitable accommodation are huge, and there are only a couple of months to go.

We hope this project is in full flow and not a poor promise. There are many people who need this type of help, and disappointment is not needed. Let’s hope, for the government’s sake, this project is not a red herring.

We need an update as soon as possible because time is running out and Christmas will be here soon.
