Max Verstappen Wins Dramatic 2026 Singapore Grand Prix Sprint Race
Max Verstappen mastered changing weather conditions and a high-attrition field to claim victory in a chaotic, rain-delayed Sprint Race at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The 20-lap Sprint produced drama from lights to flag, featuring an early race leader crashing out and a dramatic final-lap collision between McLaren teammates.
Race Summary: Early Drama and Rain Control
- Turn 1 Shuffle: Pole-sitter Max Verstappen lost the lead at the start to front-row rival George Russell, who launched off the line to take command into Turn 1.
- Russell Crashes Out: Russell’s lead was short-lived. On the opening lap, the Mercedes driver lost control on the slick street surface and crashed out of the race, handing the lead back to Verstappen and bringing out an early Safety Car.
- Verstappen Controls the Pace: Following the restart, Verstappen managed his intermediate tyres on the drying track surface, pulling away from the chasing pack to cross the line over 2.5 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
- Ferrari Double Podium: Lewis Hamilton staged an impressive drive from 6th on the grid to secure 2nd place, while Scuderia Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium positions in 3rd.
- Final-Lap McLaren Collision: McLaren was set for a solid double-points finish with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri running 4th and 5th. However, contact on the final lap eliminated Piastri and dropped Norris down the order, leaving Norris to finish 8th as the last driver in the sprint points.
