Finally We Are Going To Drill

Finally, after weeks of debate, stalling and arguments, the government is allowing drilling in the North Sea. Andy Burnham has realised the benefit of using our own gas fields, so he has given the go-ahead to drill.

This in turn will create employment and supply millions of householders with gas. We buy it at inflated prices from abroad when we have our own reserves. But opening Jackdaw is only a small token, seeing as we have oil reserves as well.

Decisions still have to be made on whether production can go ahead at Rosebank, which is known to be the UK’s largest oil field. This is in the North Sea near Shetland.

It is reported that Jackdaw will provide roughly 6% of the UK’s gas production, which could power approximately 1.4 million homes.

The government also noted that in its 11-year lifespan, Jackdaw will help the UK’s gas supply, protect jobs and add 2.9bn to the economy.

But Kemi Badenoch has urged the government to remove the law banning all new oil and gas licenses. Also, she states we have everything we need in expertise and people, but we have lost the power to make decisions.

But stormy waters could be ahead, with environmentalists making a stand for a green future.

This decision can only benefit the many. With the cost of living getting higher each day, many would thank cheaper gas bills.

For Scotland, job creation will bring much happiness and security for the workforce.

Opening the Rosebank site would help with the oil industry and give more job security. It would also put money into the economy, which could go on defence.

But we have been warned by the government that Jackdaw may not bring down the price of gas and electricity.

All in all, it will be good if licenses are made valid and we can get drilling.
