Well, it’s the final straw that PlayStation will not do a U-turn on its digital-only future for the PlayStation.
No more disc media for the PlayStation is a disgrace. Sony stated its reasons for this decision, but it’s all down to greed.
Discs can change hands many times and will have a cut-price fixture. A disc is not locked to one PS username like digital media. A disc can be sold and used by a different user. It’s not one activation code that one uses with digital.
Who does it affect? It affects you, the consumer. You buy a game of your choice, and that’s it; you’re stuck with it. No swapping or selling; you complete it, and you’re stuck with it.
There is only so much space your SSD will take; your games will just sit unloaded and unused at some stage.

There has been a huge backlash, with many users voicing their opinion.
Sadly, Sony has now added a warning label to new PlayStations, warning that 2028 games will only be available in digital format.
So let’s get down to the basic finances. One person, one game with digital means more profit for Sony, but the game developers won’t mind; they will make more money, as selling discs gives them no royalties.
The big one is coming soon, GTA VI, but only available in digital format. Many users are looking for support to block buying this to show solidarity over the stopping of disc media.
Imagine buying a game from PlayStation, and as soon as you play it, you hate it. It’s yours now, activated and working. Sony gets their cut and so does the developer, but you have nothing but a game you can’t even sell.
Again, there will be many people out there that don’t care, but the disc version of the PS5 outsold the digital version.
General costings show PlayStation to be selling some titles way above the prices of buying a new disc game.
What people don’t understand is it’s going to cost the consumer far more money to use the PlayStation digital edition in the long run.
